Heading west from 1002 US-98 takes you past Destin Harbor and across East Pass to Okaloosa Island. Gulfarium, The Boardwalk and John Beasley Park are all on the island side. Downtown Fort Walton Beach requires continuing across the Brooks Bridge corridor.

If the whole day is on Okaloosa Island, stay within that cluster. If history is important, check current bridge construction and traffic before adding downtown. The goal is an efficient day—not avoiding Fort Walton Beach.

With Gulfarium as the anchor, eat around The Boardwalk or return toward Destin after one island stop. With a beach-first day, keep lunch simple and avoid moving wet gear through several venues.
